Peter Oliver Loew

Peter Oliver Loew ( * 1967 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German historian, translator and university professor with a focus on the history of Poland.

Life

Peter Oliver Loew studied in Nuremberg, Freiburg im Breisgau, and at the Free University of Berlin History of Eastern Europe, Slavic Studies and Economics. In 2001 he received his doctorate with a thesis on local historical culture of Gdańsk 1793-1997 since 2002., He is a researcher at the German Poland Institute in Darmstadt.

Loew deals with the history of German -Polish relations in the modern era, with regional and local history, especially the history of Gdańsk and Pomerania, with minority history and cultural aspects of the history of East Central Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries.

For 2006/2007 Peter Oliver Loew got a teaching position at the University of Mainz, since 2009 he teaches at the University of Darmstadt. Since then he has translated books from Polish and English.

For 2013, the Prize was awarded to the Jablonowski.
