Peter Patterson (politician)

Peter Patterson ( born April 10, 1825 Londonderry, † 1904) was a businessman and politician in Ontario. He represented the district of York West in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1871 to 1883.

Peter Patterson was born in 1825 in Londonderry in New Hampshire in 1849 and came to Canada West (Province of Canada). He and his brothers, who worked together as Patterson Brothers, built on a craft enterprise for agricultural tools in the area of Richmond Hill. They also operated a shop for forging tools, a saw mill, a water mill and a foundry. The company built residential districts for their workers, a school and a church in the vicinity of the production. Peter Patterson worked as a bailiff in Vaughan Township from 1868 to 1873 and from 1871 to 1883 he was elected to the Parliament of Ontario. 1886 the company moved to Woodstock, to be closer to the railway line, thus saving transportation costs. In 1891 she was acquired by Massey- Harris.
