Peter Philips

Peter Philips (* 1561, † 1628) was an English composer of the Renaissance.

Philips wrote a number of motets and madrigals, as well as many works for the harpsichord. His style is not typical of the English Renaissance music, and reflects the influence of travel in the Netherlands and Italy in his youth resist.

Philips was a Catholic in Protestant England in the 16th century to a disadvantaged minority. In 1593 he was accused of plotting the assassination of Queen Elizabeth, but was acquitted for lack of evidence.
