Peter Ryan (racing driver)

Peter Ryan ( born June 10, 1940 in Philadelphia, † July 2, 1962 in Reims ) was a Canadian race car driver.

Ryan began his career in the late 1950s at local races in Canada and soon made by some excellent results attracted attention. His victory at the World Cup not counting the Canadian Grand Prix in 1961 at Mosport on a Lotus 18- Climax took him to Europe and Colin Chapman gave him a contract for work.

He should deny a full 1962 Formula Junior season for Lotus. The end of 1961 he started in his only Formula 1 Grand Prix. When the U.S. Grand Prix he reached Rank 9, but with a gap of four rounds on the winner Innes Ireland, the Lotus gave the first Grand Prix victory.

Ryan was initiated in 1962 brilliantly in the season and won the very first race of the junior formula at Mallory Park. The second run - the " Coupe de Vitesse of Juniors " on the circuit of Reims - ended tragically for him. In a collision with the vehicle of Bill Moss, he was thrown from his car and died at the race track to his internal injuries.
