Peter S. Beagle

Peter Soyer Beagle ( born April 20, 1939 in Manhattan, New York) is an American writer of fantasy books. Beagle has also written screenplays and has performed as a singer-songwriter and cabaret singer.

Life

The former dishwasher and coffee house singer Beagle became famous with the fantasy classic The Last Unicorn ( Original title: The Last Unicorn 1968). In 2005 he wrote the sequel Two Hearts (English title: Two Hearts, 2009). Other stories by Beagle revolve around animals or mythical creatures such as the sonata of the Unicorn ( The Unicorn sonata 1996), and The Indian Rhinoceros (The rhinoceros who quoted Nietzsche 1997). He wrote the screenplay for the animated film The Last Unicorn, which became a blockbuster. He also wrote the screenplay for the animated version of The Lord of the Rings, which was unsuccessful, however.
