Peter Schneider (conductor)

Peter Schneider ( born March 26, 1939 in Vienna) is an Austrian conductor.

Professional career

Peter Schneider was from 1949 to 1953 member of the Vienna Boys' Choir, and made it the first acquaintance with the opera. After graduation in 1957 he began to study composition with Karl Schiske at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and conducting studies with Hans Swarovsky.

In 1959 he had his first engagement as a coach at the State Theatre Salzburg. From 1961 to 1968 he was head coach and conductor at the Municipal Theater Heidelberg. From 1968 to 1978 he worked as assistant conductor at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Dusseldorf -Duisburg. 1978-1985 he was music director in Bremen, 1985-1987 Music Director and director of the opera in Mannheim and from 1993 to 1998 chief conductor of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, then there " Principal Guest Conductor ". Schneider is a guest conductor in Vienna, Dresden, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin ( German Opera ), Zurich and has guest appearances in Europe, United States ( New York Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera ) and Tokyo.
