Peter Southey

Peter Charles Southey ( born January 4, 1962 in Parsons Green, † December 28, 1983 in Hamburg ) was an English footballer.

Career

Southey came in July 1979 as an Apprentice (German trainee) to Tottenham Hotspur and announced on September 8, 1979 against Brighton & Hove Albion his debut in the Football League First Division, a month before he signed a professional contract. In the following years, Southey's limited appearances in the professional team in friendly matches, otherwise he played in the reserve team. In 1981 he took part with the British junior national team at the World Youth Championship in Australia and arrived there two appearances, as the English team came fourth.

After he had breathing problems in the 1983 pre-season in the summer and last was regularly running exercises, doctors diagnosed leukemia in Southey. He died 21 years old on 28 December 1983 following the trial of bone marrow transplantation.
