Peter Suber

Peter Suber ( born November 8, 1951) is professor of philosophy at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana and one of the leading players in the Open Access movement. He is Director of the Open Access Project and Public Knowledge Senior researcher in the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition ( SPARC). He is also known as the inventor of the game Nomic.

Suber Earlham College closed the from in 1973. His doctorate in philosophy in 1978 and he received a JD in 1982, both from Northwestern University. From 1976 to 1981 he worked as a stand- up comedian, where he had an appearance on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show in 1976.

Suber 2001 took part in the meeting that led initiative to the first international Open Access Initiative, the Budapest Open Access. From 2002 to 2010 he wrote the blog Open Access News and since 2001 the SPARC Open Access Newsletter (until 2003 under the name of Free Online Scholarship (FOS ) Newsletter ).

Suber is married, has two children and lives in Brooksville, Maine since 2003.
