Peter Sutermeister

Peter Suter Champion ( born May 28, 1916 in Feuerthalen; † 3 January 2003 Altavilla ) was a Swiss lawyer, writer and librettist.

Biography

Peter Suter champion in 1916 as the second- youngest child of the pastor Frederick Suter champion ( 1873-1934 ) born; his hometown was Zofingen; to his siblings included Hans Martin Suter champion and Heinrich Suter champion. Peter Suter masters studied art history, theology and law at the University of Bern, where he ( published in 1955 ) with a thesis on the legal status of the film business in terms of copyright protection film authors doctorate. From 1942 to 1953 he worked " as a lawyer and journalist ."

Early Suter Master turned to the literature and opera; his greatest success as a librettist, he celebrated with the two-act opera Raskolnikov, whose text he wrote after the submission of Dostoevsky; the music came from his brother Heinrich Suter master; the premiere took place in 1948 in the Royal Opera Stockholm. From 1953 to 1966 Suter Master was General Secretary of the Swiss National Science Foundation. He was also mayor of his longtime residence Altavilla FR, where he died in 2003. In his writings Suter master dealt among other things with the biographies of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Robert Schumann, with the baroque and the lake, as well as with theological themes.
