Peter and Paul is a humorous 14-part television series that was first aired in 1994 on RTL. The two main characters are played by Helmut Fischer and Hans Clarin.

Action

The series deals with the two mayors Elfinger Peter and Paul Schneck. These are mayors of neighboring municipalities High Waldau and Lower Waldau in Chiemgau. The two are related by marriage, Schnecks wife Elizabeth is the sister Elfingers, and standing in a turbulent friend-enemy relationship. Although they may basically, they never miss an opportunity, the other with loving infamy obliterate one, often with the excuse that it would be for the good of the respective village. The whole series is an extremely humorous Schwank and lives on the Bavarians wit and the characters that are embodied perfectly by Fischer and Clarin.

  • The series ran for the first time in 1994 on RTL and reached there on average 7 million viewers and a market share of 25%. In the first showing at ORF 1, the series in Austria even reached 41%. The series has since been repeated many times on other channels, such as ARD, Super RTL and ORF 2, most recently in 2005 in the MDR television.
  • The places High Waldau and Lower Waldau do not really exist. The film was shot in and around the series Samerberg, Törwang, Neubeuern and Aschau im Chiemgau, which also was the hometown Clarins.
  • Name and compilation of the series and the two main characters are based on Catholic Solemnity of Peter and Paul, celebrated on June 29.
