Study

Peter Unger studied with David Lewis at Swarthmore College, where he in 1962 with a BA achieved in philosophy. He then studied under AJ Ayer Philosophy at Oxford University and eventually earned his doctorate in 1966.

Positions

Unger is a passionate advocate of philosophical skepticism and as such represents the view that many philosophical questions can not be answered with absolute certainty. In applied ethics, he caught both in professional circles and in the public attention with the assertion that every man with a certain standard of living have a moral duty to make large donations to charities like Oxfam and UNICEF, even if you beg for loans must accept or even steal. In addition, Unger has shown using the paradox of the heap that he - like all other composite objects - does not exist.
