Peter von Uslar
Peter Karlovich of Uslar (Russian Пётр Карлович Услар, scientific transliteration Petr Karlovič Uslar; * 20 Augustjul / September 1 1816greg in Kurowo, Tver Oblast, .. .. † 8.jul / June 20 1875greg ibid. ) was a Russian engineer, linguist and officer of German descent.
Peter Karlovich of Uslar, known for his research on the languages of the Caucasus, graduated from the Military engineering university of the Russian Army and served from 1837 to 1840 as an engineer officer in the Caucasus, then graduated from the course at the Academy of the General Staff, made longer trips abroad and, after his return to various military- statistical work used. He was subsequently charged with the ethnographic description of the Caucasus, first went to the study of various Caucasian languages and operating this study eleven years with untiring zeal.
His many works on Caucasian languages are written in Russian, and usually reproduced autographic only in a small number of specimens, but were the same, published by the German edits Franz Anton Schiefner in the Memoirs of the Petersburg Academy from 1863 to 1873, the learned made available to the public.
