Peter Wenzel (weightlifter)

Peter Wenzel ( born April 15, 1952 in Mohlis at Meissen ) is a former German weightlifter.

Career

Peter Wenzel began with 14 years in Meissen with the weight lifting. Its discoverer and first coach was Karl Bräuer. The launching of the SC Einheit Dresden / Meissen blonde athlete soon had its first successes and in 1971 GDR Champion Junior middleweight with the promising three-way battle capacity of 420 kg, and has already been used in the following year internationally. His greatest successes were winning the world middleweight championship in 1975 and the bronze medal at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal. Peter Wenzel still raised after many successes on, but surprisingly ended before the Olympic Games in 1980 his career. Wenceslas was a very reliable weightlifter, who was for many major international championships on the podium and never failed by a complete failure in a discipline.

  • World Cup bronze medals: in 1974 with 142.5 kg and 1975 kg in the snatch and 145 in 1976 with 182.5 kg and 187.5 kg in 1977 in pushing
  • European gold medals: in 1976 with 150 kg in the snatch and 190 kg in 1975, pushing,
  • EM- Silver medals: in 1974, 145 kg in 1977, 150 kg in the snatch and 185 kg in 1976, with piercing
  • EM bronze medals: in 1975 with 145 kg and 1979 with 150 kg in the snatch and 182.5 kg in 1974, 1977 and 1978, with 187.5 kg 182.5 kg in pushing

GDR Championships

Peter Wenzel was DDR-Meister/Mehrkampf 1971, 1973, 1974, 1975 and 1977 in the middleweight division, as well as 1976 and 1978 in the light heavyweight division. He also won another 14 DDR title in the individual disciplines cracking and crashing.
