Peter Wessels

Peter Wessels ( born May 7, 1978 in Zwolle ) is a former Dutch tennis player.

Career

Peter Wessels won in his career total of ten titles on the ATP Challenger Tour, including six in singles and four more in the doubles. On the ATP World Tour in 2000 he succeeded his only title when he beat in the finals in Newport Jens Knippschild with 7:63, 6:3. In 2007 he moved as a qualifier once more into the finals of a tournament a lawn: In 's- Hertogenbosch, he defeated top-seeded Spaniard Tommy in the semi-final Robredo 6:3 and 6:3, had in the subsequent final against Croats Ivan Ljubičić with but 6:75, 6:4 and 6:74 suffered a narrow defeat.

At Grand Slam tournaments he reached in 1999 his best result with a place in the third round of the U.S. Open. In doubles, he participated only once, when he retired at the Australian Open in the opening round in 1999.

Both in 2005 and in 2006 took Peter Wessels the Netherlands to the Hopman Cup. Both times he made with Michaëlla Krajicek a team. In 2005, she left with only one victory against Zimbabwe out after the group stage. In the 2006 tournament discharged, the two sat in the first play-off match against China before they both Argentina and Australia, and Germany defeated in the first round. In the final Wessels and Krajicek were subject to the U.S. team 1-2.

Peter Wessels played between 2005 and 2008 a total of six games for the Dutch Davis Cup team. He won here two of its four individual lots, as well as two of his five double batches.
