Peter Zinner

Peter Zinner ( born July 24, 1919 in Vienna, † November 13, 2007 in Santa Monica, California ) was an American editor of Austrian origin.

Life

Peter Zinner graduated Theresianumgasse in 1937. He was forced to emigrate because of his Jewish origin in 1938 with his parents and came across the Philippines in 1940 to Los Angeles, where he worked as a taxi driver and as a pianist in silent movie theaters. In 1960, Zinner own company for film editing and later taught his daughter the craft.

1979 Zinner got the Oscar for Best Editing for The Deer Hunter ( The Deer Hunter). Other well-known films in which Zinner participated as an editor, were The Godfather (1972 ), The Godfather - Part II (1974 ) and A Star Is Born ( 1976). As an actor he appeared in the film The Hunt for Red October by John McTiernan.

1959 married Christa Zinner, an artist of German origin. Their daughter Katina Zinner (* 1961) is also working as a film editor.
