Petr Kment

Petr Kment ( born August 20, 1942 in Prague; † August 22, 2013 ) was a Czechoslovakian wrestler. He was winner of the bronze medal at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City and European champion in 1968 in Västerås heavyweight in Greco- Roman style.

Career

Petr Kment began as a teenager in Prague with the rings. He was a member of the Police Sports Club Rudá Hvězda Prague soon after the beginning of his career. Petr has developed into an outstanding heavyweight in Greco-Roman style, which successfully continued the long tradition of excellent Czechoslovak heavyweight wrestlers, starting with Gustav Frištenský about Josef Urban, Josef Klapuch, Josef Růžička and Bohumil Kubat. In 1961 Petr was time, that he could be used in countries fighting. He succeeded in attaining it against the strong Bulgarians Radoslaw Kasabow and against the Soviet Ringer Sharov and Chabalischwili each draw. In 1964, he was first employed in an international championship, which were equal to the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Petr fought there excellent and celebrated a victory in his first fight on the multiple world champion Hamit Kaplan from Turkey. He was defeated, however, against the then the heavyweight scene dominant István Kozma from Hungary and Anatoli Rosh Chin from the USSR and finished 4th. In the next five international championships Petr then won the bronze medal each time. It was the World Cup 1965 in Tampere, the European Championship 1966 in Essen, the World Cup 1966 in Toledo / USA, the European Championships 1967 in Minsk and the World Cup 1967 in Bucharest. In each of these championships, he lost against István Kozma and also three times against the Soviet starter Nikolai Shmakov. 1968 Petr Kment managed at the European Championships in Västerås finally a victory against István Kozma and promptly he was with six glorious victories European champions. At the Olympic Games the same year in Mexico City, however, repeated the events of the years 1965-1967, ie Petr Kment lost against István Kozma and against Anatoly Rosh Chin and to also against Sweden Ragnar Svensson, but still won the bronze medal in front of Svensson.

After 1969 Petr was not quite as successful, but won again at the World Championships in 1971 in Sofia and a bronze medal at the World Championships in 1973 in Tehran even the silver medal. At the European Championships in Berlin in 1970, at the Roland Bock from the Federal Republic of Germany won the title, Petr Kment was the only wrestler who reached against Bock a draw.

After winning the Vice World Champion title in 1973 Petr Kment ended his international career Ringer. He became a physician and later President of the Police Sports Association PSK " Olympus" Prague.
