Petra, Majorca
Petra is a small country town and administrative center of the homonymous municipality on the Balearic island of Mallorca. The direction perpendicular streets are lined with old houses made of golden-brown rubble stone ( Marès ). All in all acts Petra sleepy and far from any hustle and bustle. Location
The municipality is situated approximately 44 kilometers from Palma along the main road MA- 3320 from Manacor towards Inca in the country area of Pla.

History

Personalities
Petra is known in particular for being the birthplace of the famous missionary Junipero Serra, the founder of San Francisco ( USA) and other well-known places such as San Diego (USA). He was born as Josep Miquel Serra i Ferrer 1713 in Petra. 1749, he traveled to Mexico and spent two decades working as a missionary. He was beatified in 1988 by Pope John Paul II.
