Petra Roth

Petra Roth ( born May 9, 1944 in Bremen as Petra Martin ) is a German politician of the CDU. From 1995 to 30 June 2012, she was Mayor of Frankfurt am Main and in the years 1997-1999, 2002-2005 and 2009-2011 President of the German Association of Cities.

Life

Roth comes from a Bremen merchant family. After she left the Kippenberg Gymnasium with the completion of middle maturity, Roth trained as a medical assistant. She then graduated from the Commercial College. They then moved to Frankfurt am Main.

Roth is deemed interested in art and has, inter alia, the painting of the artist Rissa guard. She lives in the district of Frankfurt Nieder-Erlenbach, is a widow since 1994 and has two sons.

Political career

Roth joined in Frankfurt in 1972, the CDU. There she was first Social District Chairwoman and member of the city council. From 1987 to 1995 she was a member of the Hesse state parliament and from 1992 to 1995 leader of the CDU Frankfurt.

1995 Helmut Kohl asked Roth about to run for Lord Mayor of Frankfurt. She sat down at the direct election to Mayor of Frankfurt defeated the incumbent by Andreas Scholer (SPD ) by and was on 5 July 1995 as the first woman mayor of Frankfurt am Main.
