Petri Varis

Petri Varis John ( born May 13, 1969 in Varkaus ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who plays as a striker. He was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1993 in the sixth round as 132 of the San Jose Sharks.

Career

After starting his professional career in the Finnish first division at Karhu -Kissat, Varis played his first games in the SM- liiga in Ässät Pori. After two seasons with Ässät, Jokerit undertook the links striker, where he is now seven years went hunting for goals. With Varis Jokerit won the Finnish championship four times and two-time European Cup.

In 1997, Varis to North America, where he spent one season with the Indianapolis Ice of the IHL in. He was allowed to come for a game to enjoy the NHL when he ran aground for the Chicago Blackhawks. After this stint overseas, he came to the 1998/99 season in the German Ice Hockey League to the Cologne Sharks to aground for Jokerit after one year. After a two-year gig in Switzerland, he found himself again in the Finnish League, where he again chases since Jokerit at the puck. In total he scored 271 goals in SM -Liiga and seven goals in seven European Cup games. (June 2008 )

Varis was also player of the Finnish national ice hockey team and won the bronze medal in 1994 in Lillehammer ice hockey competition.
