Petronax of Monte Cassino

Petronax (c. 670 in Brescia, † May 7 747 in Monte Cassino ) was abbot of Monte Cassino monastery.

Life

Petronax lived with some like-minded people as a hermit in the ruins of the 581 destroyed by the Lombards monastery of Monte Cassino. From Pope Gregory II, he received 717 the instruction to build the monastery again. Petronax was abbot of the newly arisen monastery and spiritual teacher from Sturmius and Willibald. He received 742 of the original monastic rules of Saint Benedict by Pope Zacharias.
