Petros (pelican)

Petros was a White Pelican, who was in the period 1958 to 1986 the mascot of the Greek island of Mykonos.

In 1958, a fisherman found an injured pelican of Mykonos. He used him well, and the Pelican remained in place Mykonos (Chora ). After a while he became the mascot of the island and was named Petros. He was a local celebrity and a popular view map motif.

After Petros ' death in 1986, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis gave the island a new pelican. Another pelican was a gift from the Hagenbeck Zoo in Hamburg. Last was added a third pelican, which was again rinsed injured on land, so that today three pelicans live in Mykonos, one of which is called Petros.
