Petrove Raion

The Rajon Petrowe (Ukrainian Петрівський район / rayon Petriwskyj; Russian Петровский район / Petrovsky raion ) is an administrative unit in the east of the Kirovohrad Oblast in central Ukraine. It was founded in 1923, has an area of 1,195 km ² and a population of 23 744 inhabitants (1 April 2013). The population density is 20 inhabitants per km ².

Geographical location

The Raion is located in the historical landscape of the "Wild Field" and is from Inhulez which is accumulated in the south of the Rajons to Iskriwka Reservoir and its tributary, the Selena ( Зелена ) flows through.

It is bordered to the north by Rajon Olexandrija, on the west by Rajon Nowhorodka and Rajon Dolynska as well as in the south and east by the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast with the Rajon Pjatychatky, the city Schowti Vody and the Krivoy Rog Rajon.

The administrative seat and largest town of the Rajons is the eponymous urban-type settlement Petrowe, which is 95 km from the Oblasthauptstadt Kirovohrad.

At the municipal level of Rajon is administratively divided into two settlement council municipalities and 13 district municipalities, which individual localities are subordinate.
