Petter Hansson

Petter Hansson ( born December 14, 1976 in Söderhamn) is a former Swedish football player. The defender, who made his debut in the Swedish national team in 2001, won with Halmstad BK the Lennart Johansson - Cup for the Swedish championship title. Throughout his career, he played in his home country, the Netherlands and France and took part in two European Cup finals and a World Cup tournament.

Career

Breakthrough in Sweden

Hansson began his career at Söderhamn FF. In 1998 he moved to Halmstad BK and came on 4 October of the year in the 1-1 draw against AIK on his debut in Allsvenskan. Already in the following year, he had established himself as a regular in the defense of the club. In the 2000 season he missed only one game season and contributed with four goals this season in the fourth championship of the Association of Halland.

Through his consistent performances Hansson played himself into the notebook of coach Lars Lagerback and Tommy Söderberg, who nominated him for the international game series at the beginning of 2001. On February 1 of the year he made his debut in the 0-1 defeat against Finland in the National Jersey. This initially remained his only game by constant performances at club level he kept his place and made known internationally.

Move abroad

In July 2002, playing in the Dutch Eredivisie SC Heerenveen announced the commitment Hansson. He was after his former teammate Stefan Selakovic, who was already changed in the winter Frisian club, the second shopping from Sweden within the year. Hansson signed for first division a contract with four years duration. Similar to his first professional station in Sweden, he was distinguished by solid performances and established himself at once as a regular player. Ultimately found Hansson into account in the squad for the European Championship finals in 2004, but could not prevail against the competition for Erik Edman, Olof Mellberg and Andreas Jakobsson and remained without tournament use. In international matches after the tournament itself Hansson was able to establish in the league and European Cup in the squad due to its solid inserts for the SC Heerenveen not last. Therefore, he was also at the 2006 World Cup in Germany to the Swedish squad. The tournament went well for him, however, similar disappointing as the European Championship two years earlier, as it only substitute for the set defensive formation around Edman, Mellberg and this time Teddy Lucic was again and could not prevail. His single tournament use he came in the 0-2 defeat in the second-round match against the German national team, as he was substituted for a dismissal for Lucic to strengthen the defensive for Kim Kallstrom.

In February 2007, Hansson presented with his 151 game in the Eredivisie record for a Swedish player on by the previous record holder Mathias Florén. Finally, he left the SC Heerenveen in the direction of France and hired at Stade Rennes, where he met his compatriot Edman. Even after the tournament Hansson was one of the permanent employees in both the club and the national team. While he reached with Stade Rennes in the league, seventh place, the team in the French Cup competition of the catchment succeeded to the final against second division side Guingamp. This sat in May 2009, however, thanks to two goals of the Brazilian Eduardo with a goal by Hansson's teammate Carlos Bocanegra with a 2-1 win through and was able to win the competition as the second unterklassiger club in the cup history. During the following season, the club offered him an extension of his contract expiring in the summer of 2010, he suggested the offer, however, and changed from within the league for AS Monaco. In his new club he was at first a regular in the back four.

After Hansson had not been taken into account since the miss qualifying for the 2010 World Cup in the fall of 2009 for the national team, the new coach Erik Hamrén appointed him in October of the following year as a surprise to the qualifier for the 2012 European Championship against the Netherlands, as in the previous mandatory international game Mellberg was referred to the field. In the 1:4 defeat, however, he was ultimately the complete playing time on the bench. In the championship he came, however, regularly used, but could relegation of the club in Ligue 2, the end of the season despite his 30 season inserts prevent not.
