Petter Wettre

Petter Wettre ( born August 11, 1967) is a Norwegian jazz saxophonist, bandleader and composer.

Biography

Petter Wettre grew up in Sandefjord, studied first at the Toneheim Folkehøgskole (1987 ), then at the Berklee College of Music in Boston in 1992, including Dave Liebman. He established himself later in Oslo's jazz scene, including one with his own trio and quartet. In his band The trio he played from 1995 with the percussionists Jarle Vespestad, Per Oddvar Johansen, Jon Christensen and bassist Ingebrigt Haker Flaten, Arild Andersen and Per Zanussi.

His recording debut was the Petter Wettre Quartet with the album Pig Virus 1996 originated with pianist Håvard Wiik, bassist Terje Gewelt and drummer Per Oddvar Johansen. With Ingebrigt Flaten and Jarle Vespestad 1998 saw the album Meet the locals, the Richard Cook and Brian Morton stopped in its assessment in The Penguin Guide to Jazz in 2001 for one of the most exciting debut albums this year for the Resonant label. The following album In Color ( 1999) Dave Liebman participated as guest musician.

Wettre also worked with numerous formations of the Oslo Jazz scene as Storeslem, Sandefjord Storband, the Oslo Groove Company and the Norske Store Orkester. He participated in albums by Torbjørn Sunde ( Meridian, 1998), Frode Alnæs with ( Frode, 1996) and the band member ( Shaman, 1999).

Wettre also founded in 2002 the record label Household Records and taught at the Oslo Music Conservatory and at Agder Music Conservatory.

His albums The Only Way to Travel ( 2000) and Fountain Of Youth (2007) were awarded the Spellemannprisen. After Cook / Morton Petter Wettre is stylistically to settle in the spectrum between post-bop and free forms of play, with hints at Joe Henderson, John Coltrane and Tubby Hayes.
