Hair strand ( Peucedanum ) is a genus of flowering plants in the carrot family ( Apiaceae ). There are herbaceous plants with shallow gap fruit. At the base of the stem of most species there is a fibrous tuft of dead leaf sheaths.

Description

Hair strand species are perennial or perennial herbaceous plants. The leaves are one to several times pinnate or one or more times composed threes.

The flowers are in clusters and are clearly composed predominantly hermaphrodite. The bracts are missing or several, if present, then undivided. The Hüllchenblätter are usually present and numerous, rarely missing. Calyx teeth are usually clearly present, rarely absent. The petals are white, reddish, yellowish or greenish. They have a long inward curved tip and are often emarginate at the bent-over point. The ovary as well as later the fruit are bald.

The fruits are strongly compressed at the back ( dorsal), thereby the joint area is large. The main ribs on the edge are winged. The move permanent principal ribs jumping clear. Among the little valley there is ever one to three oil welts on the rake face two to six. The stylus is the state fruit one to three times as long as the pen pad. The fruit holder is free and cleaved to the bottom.

The genus occurs in Europe, Asia and Africa.
