Model history

The RCZ is technically based largely on the Peugeot 308 and is so far the sportiest series model of the French manufacturer. Almost all elements of the concept cars presented in 2007 were included in the series; the RCZ is a " real exception model " (compared to the usual Peugeot models), says Peugeot spokesman Marc Bocqué.

Production

Due to the great approval of the RCZ study, Peugeot decided to series production and was looking for a partner for the production of the sports coupe. Our own production in the Peugeot works was out of the question, whereupon negotiated among others, only with French and German companies until you went in cooperation with Magna Steyr of Austria for several reasons. For the Peugeot experience in small series and also a lot of flexibility and variability was important in the decision for the production partner. The RCZ was brought to series maturity by Magna until December 2009. Since then, the RCZ at Magna Steyr is produced in series; in the production of the new Coupé many steps are still in manual labor.

Magna Steyr

Magna Steyr mounted for many years for various automobile companies in the world; including for Mercedes, BMW, Saab, Chrysler and Aston Martin. For the most part convertible and coupe models in smaller series that are produced. In the set up for the new Peugeot RCZ production hall will be completed in a layer up to 14 vehicles per hour. Magna has taken with the Peugeot RCZ for the first time the production of a whole vehicle. All essential production conditions are thus the responsibility of the Austrians. Around 700 employees are engaged in the production, among others in the areas of assembly, quality control and logistics.

Body / Design

The body design was designed by German designer Boris Reinmöller and is often compared because of the similarity with the Audi TT; stylistically many bonds were taken at the TT design. For a character of the RCZ body care included the double curvature in the roof and rear window as well as the distinctive roof bars made of aluminum. In addition, the RCZ has an extendable rear spoiler, which should provide additional downforce at high speeds. The rear spoiler stands out either by pressing a button or automatically in two stages: to 19 degrees for more than 85 km / h and to 34 degrees at more than 155 km / h

The body has a value ( drag coefficient ) of 0.33 and is therefore only an average.

Interior

Although the RCZ officially a 2 2 seater is true, the rear seats are for "normal" adults have fallen very small and rather intended as a jump seats because of the lack of necessary legroom. The rear seats can be folded down and therefore ensure a larger trunk; the luggage compartment thus can be extended from 321 to 639 liters. The seat covers are decorated with contrast stitching.

The steering wheel is flattened on the lower side, thus forming a reminiscence of motorsport. The valves are grayed out. An analogue clock sits on top of the center console, which is partially covered with black piano lacquer. Furthermore, manufactured the pedals and other applications in the interior of aluminum.

Motors

The two THP turbocharged petrol engines with 1.6 liter displacement and 156 hp and 200 hp respectively of the RCZ is a joint development with BMW. The engines operate with direct injection, twin-scroll turbocharger and variable camshaft timing for the intake and exhaust valves. The same engine makes, among other things in the new BMW 316i 136 hp and 211 hp Mini John Cooper Works.

Equipment

Standard equipment for the RCZ include power windows, cruise control system with limiter, audio sound system with Radio, CD player and MP3 playback control, dual zone climate control, acoustic rear parking aid, electrically adjustable and folding exterior mirrors, hill start assist, 18 -inch alloy wheels, tire pressure sensors and ESP ( Electronic Stability Program); The ESP can be switched off if desired.

The subject to additional options (in Germany ) include leather seats or a full leather package, in which also the dashboard is dressed, a carbon -coated roof, xenon headlights with cornering light function and a navigation system.

Security

The RCZ is equipped as standard with ESP and Brake Assist (EBA). The driver and passenger airbags each comes a neck airbag, which is incorporated in the seat structure.

The new guidelines of the Euro - NCAP crash tests met the RCZ in full. A new pyrotechnic pop- up bonnet to reduce the risk of injury to pedestrians in a collision by the hood is slightly raised in a collision.
