Pewex

Pewex (short for Przedsiębiorstwo Eksportu Wewnętrznego - Companies for inland export) was a chain of stores that in the People's Republic of Poland goods against Western currencies, mainly the U.S. dollar and German mark sold. In addition, some special vouchers at Bank Pekao SA ( Bon PeKaO ) were accepted. One could there mainly to buy western goods that were not available in the other state stores, including Jeans, originally from the West cigarettes, alcoholic beverages and consumer electronics. The business was founded in the 1960s.

In the 1990s, the chain store Pewex was privatized, but went bankrupt shortly thereafter.

In the GDR existed with Intershop a similar chain of retail stores.

In Italy there is a supermarket chain Pewex ( Pewex Supermercati ), which even used the logo of the Polish -defunct Pewex Society.
