Peypin

Peypin is a commune with 5363 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Bouches -du -Rhône in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

The community is located 26 km north-east of Marseille and between Gardanne and Aubagne. Neighboring towns are La Destrousse (two miles), Auriol ( four kilometers ), Cadolive ( eight km ) and Saint- Savournin (ten km). The municipality is part of the Communauté d' Aubagne et de Pays d' agglomà l' Étoile.

The village lies between the Massif du Garlaban and the Chaîne de l' Étoile.

History

In the 12th century the Lord of Auriol built a castle and was lord of the village, although it therefore came into conflict with the abbey of Saint -Victor. The castle was destroyed in the 16th century. 1870 Peypin was cleaved from the municipality of La Destrousse.
