Peyresq

Peyresq is a village in the French department of Alpes- de -Haute -Provence. It belongs to the municipality Thorame -Haute. The village lies at the foot of Cassille that belongs to the mountain Courradour, at the end of a road that comes from the pass of La Colle -Saint -Michel and lies at 1528 m above the valley of the VAIRE.

The place was first mentioned in 1042, which refers to the name " Petriscum " a term on the rocky terrain.

Peyresq is named after the great humanist Nicolas- Claude Fabri de Peiresc (1580-1637), who, however, has never set foot in the place.

1964 merged with Peyresq Colle- Saint- Michel on the commune of Saint -Michel- Peyresq that belongs to Thorame -Haute since 1974. Today in Peyresq particularly scientific conferences and summer schools will be carried out.
