Pezoporus flaviventris

The Erdsittiche ( Pezoporus ) are an Australian parrot species. It consists of the Night parrot ( Pezoporus occidentalis), the Erdsittich ( Pezoporus wallicus ) and the Western Erdsittich ( Pezoporus flaviventris ).

Features

Erdsittiche are with an average length of 25-30 inches medium sized parrot species. The main feature of the Erdsittiche the green body which is coated with black cross- shafts. These are caused by the wide black lacing of the springs. In addition, the plumage of the belly side, parts of the wings and parts of the tail feathers are yellowish. Furthermore, are common features of dark gray beak, the gray nose skin, light brown legs and the thick head. Only the Erdsittich and the Western Erdsittich have a red forehead.

Dissemination

The genus colonized the Australian continent mainly on the southern coasts, as well as the western Tasmania.

System

The genus is considered part of the tribe Platycercini, or alternatively as sub-family Pezoporinae within the monotypic tribe Pezoporini. The closest relatives are the grass parakeets ( Neophema ) and probably the budgerigar ( Melopsittacus undulatus). Recent research results indicate the products that no, this genus does not belong in a separate tribe, but the tribe Platycercini.
