Pfaffenthal

Pfaffenthal ( Luxembourgish Pafendall ) is a neighborhood of the city of Luxembourg in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It lies in the valley of the Alzette between the old city center of Luxembourg and the Kirchberg plateau. Valley is in the name still written in the old German with h. In and around the Pfaffenthal is a series of well-preserved buildings of the former fortress of Luxembourg. Also, the suburb is the site of the first water station of Luxembourg City. It was built in the mid 19th century. In the 1960s, it was demolished down to its chimney.

By Pfaffenthal also the Wenzelsweg, a tourist circuit through the fortifications of the city of Luxembourg. It leads from Pfaffenthal by the district reason up to Fort Thiingen.

The Pfaffenthal is spanned by the Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge ( Lux also: Roud Bréck ( Red Bridge )), which is one of the landmarks of the city of Luxembourg. Likewise, leading the so-called " northern route " of the Luxembourg railway, after passing through the imposing viaduct over the Alzette, through this suburb. At the foot of the viaduct of the railway bridge is also the youth hostel in the city of Luxembourg.

The cyclist Charly Gaul (1932-2005) and the cyclist Elsy Jacobs (1933-1998) was born in Pfaffenthal.
