Pfeffikon is a village in the Official Sursee the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland. It was an independent municipality until the end of 2012 and merged on 1 January 2013 with Rickenbach.

Geography

The former municipality is located in the border area Wynental / Michel Office and the cantons of Lucerne and Aargau. The settlement focus is on the eastern slope and at the foot of Mount Taurus, which at 861 m asl the highest point of the former municipality forms. The former parish consists of the village (542 m asl), the south of it Eichbühl ( 585 m asl) and the village of a mountain ( 616 m) west of the village on the eastern slope of Bull Mountain. All three districts are districts of the territory west of the Hallwilersee, which have grown together. The Taurus mountain is forested as the only former church member.

Pfeffikon bordered to the north, east and south on the communities Reinach AG and Menziken in Canton Aargau, and to the west by Rickenbach LU.

Population

From 1798 to 1860, the population grew significantly ( from 1798 to 1860: 48.2 %). This was followed by a mass exodus to 1888 (1860-1888: -20.0 %). After that, the population increased because of the settlement of a large cigar factory again significantly until the year 1920 (1888-1920: 18.9 %). A decline in the 1920s was followed by a continuous increase in population to 1970 ( from 1930 to 1970: 68.1 ). By 1990, the population fell slightly - and then rose by 2004 almost to the level of 1970.

Languages

The population used as everyday language, a high- Alemannic dialect. At the last census in 2000 gave 91.25 % German, 2.92% and 1.75 % Italian Albanian as the main language.

Religions - faiths

Previously, the entire population was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Today ( as of 2000) provides for the religious composition of the population as follows: There are 55.54 % and 28.86 % Roman Catholic Evangelical Protestant Christians. In addition, one finds 6.56% and 4.81% non-religious Muslims. The majority of Muslims are Albanians from Kosovo and Macedonia. There are also a few Turks and Kurds.

Origin - Nationality

Of the 703 residents in late 2006 were 609 Swiss and 94 ( = 13.4%) foreigners. At the last census was 84.69 % ( 88.63 % including dual citizens ) Swiss nationals. The largest immigrant groups come from Serbia and Montenegro (mostly Albanians ), Italy, Germany, Portugal and Macedonia.

Traffic

The former municipality is connected by two bus lines to the public transport network. In Beinwil is a stop on the railway line Luzern- Lenzburg and in the neighboring Menziken AG, a station on the Wynental Suhrental -Bahn (WSB), which travels to Aarau.

Pfeffikon is close to the road Lucerne -Aarau. A road link via Burg AG according to Rickenbach / Beromunster. The nearest motorway connections are Sursee on the A2 in 16 miles and Lenzburg AG on the A1 is 21 km away.

History

The oldest settlement of proof are the remains of a large Roman villa, which was built between 100 and 150 AD. One of the Mauritius consecrated church was built between the 6th and 8th centuries.
