The horse head is a 874.9 m above sea level. NHN high mountain of volcanic origin in the Hessian Rhön.

With him only slightly east upstream water crest of the horse head is connected by a " Geological trail ". The landscape is dominated by volcanic rocks of the transition, the perpendicular run through a cuesta landscape of red sandstone.

The treeless summit offers sweeping views to the west. To the east is the higher peaks of the main water dome.
