Pfersee

Pfersee is a district in the west of Augsburg. He is the VIII planning area of the city of Augsburg and is divided into three districts, 15 Rosenau and Thelottviertel, 16 Pfersee -south and 17 Pfersee -Nord.

By 1911 Pfersee was a separate municipality - prior to the incorporation had at the Luitpold Bridge over the Wertach still bridge tolls to be paid.

The district has about 24,300 inhabitants and covers an area of 4.4 km ².

History

For the first time the place is mentioned in 800 AD, but probably since Roman times, it already exists.

In the Middle Ages, the village was located on the outskirts of Augsburg in the possession of the individual Augsburg bishop and several patrician families. In the period when Augsburg was a free imperial city, Pfersee belonged to the territory of the Margraviate of Burgau ( western Austria ). Middle of the 19th century created large industrial firms, one of the most famous was probably spinning, weaving Pfersee (SWP ), Dierig and JP Bemberg, but also the chemical plant Pfersee. From a population of 900 in 1850, the population grew at the end of 1910 about 11,000 inhabitants.

On January 1, 1911, from the industrial suburb Pfersee by incorporation of a district of Augsburg. Since the 1960s, the industry will disappear. Of the original factory now produces only the Eberle.

During National Socialism, here was a subcamp of the Dachau concentration camp, which was meant for the care of the ( important for the war ) industry, mainly the Messerschmitt AG with forced labor. After the withdrawal of units stationed here the United States Army the site has been used by the former Sheridan Kaserne for residential and commercial purposes.

Industrial history

  • The spinning, weaving Pfersee (SGP ) was born from the J. Kraus color-weaving, founded in 1866 by the general decline of the textile industry also had the SWP in 1992 to stop production in 1993 was the final out of the company.
  • The Chemical Factory was founded in 1888 as Pfersee Bernheimsche Appreturfabrik and since moving to Langweid a.Lech ( in the district of Augsburg) Pfersee chemistry is, by the merger with Ciba, the name was changed to Ciba Specialty Chemicals GmbH Pfersee. 2007, the factory of the company Huntsman Corporation was acquired.
  • The Eberle J.N. & Cie.. GmbH cold rolling mill saws factory in Eberle Street was founded in 1836 by the brothers Johann and Franz N. Eberle for the production of Laubsägeblättern. 1847, the production had risen to 720,000 hacksaw blades a year, the young company already employs 10 staff. 1871 already a turnover of 50,000 Reichsmarks was generated.

Naming

In the 11th century there were the names Pherrese, later also Pherse, Pferse, Pfersen. In the 15th and 16th centuries Pferschen, Phersheim, Pfertzen or Pferschen was used in documents.

The Celtic term " Perz " means castle or gate. The Romans erected in place of this gate, which stood on the present Luitpoldbrücke to 1875, a bridgehead or a fort, which was accordingly referred to as " gate" or " Pfersee ". A Roman road led from Augsburg on the Wertach after Pfersee and Bergen, where you had to pay tolls to 1911, there was still no Pfersee district of Augsburg.

The Perzheimwiese in Pfersee takes its name from the Perzheimern, the men's Pferseer castle in the Middle Ages. A legend says that the Roman general Varus, also called Verres, is said to have hidden after his defeat by the Germans in the Teutoburg Forest in the area of Pfersee and finally have been killed on a lake. Clubs

The most important sports club of the district is the TSV Pfersee, which was founded in 1885. Nationally known TSV was mainly through its football teams.

The ladies played earlier in the third-tier Regionalliga Süd and were in the administrative region of Swabia, the most successful Fußballerinnnen after the local rivals TSV Schwaben Augsburg. Today, the first team plays in the national league.

The first men's team was in time of war (1943 /44) at the Gauliga Bavaria South, which was the highest German league at this time. 1972/73 was the TSV Pfersee a one-year stint in the (then fourth division ) National League South. Today, the first team plays in the circle class Augsburg center.

Besides football, the TSV Pfersee also offers table tennis, gymnastics and volleyball.
