Pfitsch

Pfitsch (Italian Val di Vizze ) is one of the northernmost towns of South Tyrol in Italy with 2845 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). The community got its name from Pfitscher valley in which it lies. Its main town, meadows at the entrance of the valley.

Geography

The community Pfitsch located in the north of South Tyrol and there occupies the entire Pfitscher valley and the surrounding mountains. The Pfitscher Valley - crossed by Pfitscher Bach - branches at Sterzing from Wipptal off in a northeasterly direction and performs more than 20 kilometers in the Zillertal Alps into it before it ( 2246 m slm ) ends on Pfitscherjoch. The municipal area is 142.00 km ².

The municipality is divided into three fractions Kematen, St. Jacob and meadows, which in turn comprise a number of smaller villages and hamlets, about Flains, Moss, Burgum, Schmuders, Tulfer, Kematen, St. James, Stone, Maibad, Ried, Rain, pit, Kinzen, meadows and railway station.

The capital of the province is grasslands ( 940-970 m) at the mouth of the valley before the Sterzinger pool. This area has Pfitscher municipality emits up to the Eisack and thus to the Sterzinger city center, whereby about the Sterzinger train station is right actually in Pfitsch. The first part of the mountains that border the Pfitscher valley in the north- west and north, is the Tux comb. From the Wolfendorn the mountain range is calculated on the north Pfitscher valley, which now also carries the Italian-Austrian border to the Alps main ridge. After Kraxentrager ( 2999 ​​m), the High Wall ( 3289 m ) and the incision of the Pfitschtal yoke which connects the valley with the Pfitscher Zamser base in North Tyrol, the ridge rises to the east to continue. In the extreme east of the municipality are the Hochferner peak ( 3463 m), the high Feiler ( 3509 m) and the High Weißzint ( 3371 m) the highest peak of Pfitsch. Am Hohen Weißzint a trending to the southwest ridge, the south side limits the Pfitscher valley and penetrate to the then several short side valleys triggers. The first short section of this mountain range between high and low Weißzint forms the municipal boundary to Muehlwald in Mühlwalder valley. In Pfitsch there are no significant standing water, but a number of smaller lakes on the northern flanks of the valley, including the Hatzlacke (1850 m), the Grafsee (1999 m) and the Pfitscher yoke lakes (above 2200 m).

History

The population of the municipality dates back to Roman times, as early as 600 AD, probably the present-day settlements Flains, Tulfer and Kematen have passed. The first written record of the village comes from a deed of gift of the year produced 827 AD.

Around 1070, there was a rock fall, was what the lake, which filled the rear valley until then emptied. This and the rear part of the valley was habitable.

The municipality has 2845 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012), these include, according to census of 2011 to 90.98 % of Germany, to 8.94% Italian and 0.08 % Ladin language group.

Coat of arms

The emblem consists of a black base on which a rock crystal is shown. This is the former of mining, the crystal wealth and the dark shale. The horseshoe is the coat of arms of a former local court Mr removed. The green base symbolizes the district meadows.
