Geography

Geographical location

The city is located at the mouth of the river Pfreimd in the Naab and is part of the Natural Park of Upper Palatinate Forest.

Name

The name is derived from Pfreimd the eponymous river Pfreimd flowing to the Naab.

History

The first mention of Pfreimd goes back to the year 1118. Since January 3, 1372 Pfreimd leads the privileges rights of a city.

The city was the seat of a Pfreimd Upper and Lower Court and belonged to the princely Landgraviate Leuchtenberg. The country county was from 1714 kurbayerisch ( the elector was entitled but did not lead him in the arms ). Pfreimd possessed the municipal law with important intrinsic rights.

The former common land belonging to the County of Leuchtenberg led to a twinned with green field.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1972, the formerly independent communities Iffelsdorf, stone and ponds were incorporated. Parts of the territory of the dissolved municipality Saltendorf came on 1 January 1978, and the defunct community Hohentreswitz that had received 1971 Pamsendorf on 1 January, 1 May 1978 added.

Policy

In the mayoral election on 2 March 2008 took Arnold Kimmerl ( ODP ) with 41.5 % the first place. Alfred Hammer ( CSU) came to 35.1 %, Martha Schönberger ( FWG ) achieved 23.4%. Thus it came to the run-off election between Arnold Kimmerl and Alfred Hammer, the Kimmerl 64.6 % could decide for themselves.

The city council has 20 members.

Coat of arms

Blazon: Azure, one above the other three of red, green and gold striped rainbow, between which swim two silver grayling; in the upper corners of two five-pointed gold stars, in such a foot plate. Coat of arms since the 15th century.

Twinning

The city Pfreimd maintains a twinning the town green box ( Main-Tauber -Kreis). Since 15 November 2013, with the city Přimda ( German: Pfraumberg ) in the Czech Republic.

Traffic

Pfreimd is on the Federal Highway 93 (Exit Pfreimd ) near the motorway intersection Upper Palatinate Forest (A 93 and A 6). The local train station is regularly served by trains on the railway line Regensburg Oberkotzau.

Garrison

Pfreimd is Bundeswehr location since 1971. In the Upper Palatinate barracks Panzer Battalion 104 and part of the Logistics Battalion 4 are stationed, are subject to the 12 Armoured Brigade.
