Phagun (1973 film)

Phagun ( Punjabi: ਫੱਗਣ ) is a Bollywood film directed by Rajinder Singh Bedi. Especially known Piya Sang Khelo Holi song is sung by Lata Mangeshkar.

Action

Shanta is the daughter of a rich family and married to the poor writer Gopal. Her father does not like him and thinks Gopal was behind his wealth ago. One day during the Holifestes, Gopal pours paint over Shanta, is like the custom usual. Shanta however is outraged because Gopal has so ruined their expensive saree. This reaction Gopal did not expect and is offended. Especially because he knows that he can buy her an expensive sari with its current earnings. After this incident, Gopal disappears from Shantas life and leaves behind a pregnant wife.

The years go by and from the common child, the pretty woman Santoshi. This also falls promptly in the young doctor Suman and marries him. After a few days Shanta comes to live with them, and the danger of young marriage. Above all it interferes Suman who feels controlled by Shantas presence. Again and again there is a verbal confrontation.

Soon Suman tells his problems to the head of a psychiatric clinic, Dr. Effendi, where he also works. Dr. Effendi is related to Shantas family and tries Suman to help by telling him Gopal's history. He tells how Gopal became a famous writer and as Gopal began to collect the most expensive and finest saris throughout India. But the doctor has lost its track and Shanta has promised to see them again until he unites with Gopal.

After another confrontation in Sumans house Shanta leaves the house in tears on the day of Holifestes. Shortly thereafter, stands opposite her Dr. Effendi, who keeps his promise and bring Gopal. Finally, the family is reunited.
