Phahurat

Phahurat ( Pahurat, Thai: พาหุรัด ) is a road ( Thanon Phahurat, ถนน พาหุรัด ) and a lively market ( Talat Phahurat, ตลาด พาหุรัด ) for textiles in the District ( Khet ) Phra Nakhon capital Bangkok, Thailand.

Originally the area during the reign of King Taksin (r. 1768-1782 ) was an enclave of Vietnamese refugees. 1898 destroyed by the great fire, the area and paved the way for a road that in memory of the early deceased daughter of King Chulalongkorn ( Rama V ), Bahurada Manimaya ( Thai: สมเด็จ พระเจ้า ลูกเธอ เจ้าฟ้า พาหุรัด มณี มัย ) Bahulada was called, now known as Phahurat.

Many residents of Phahurat come from South Asia, mainly from India and deal in textiles. Years ago, about one hundred Sikhs settled in the area that are active in the textile trade even today. Her temple, the Gurudwara Siri Guru Singh Sabha is a landmark of Phahurat. In addition, here also settled Hindus and Muslims.

There are also some rather unusual for Bangkok markets, such as the Sampeng market, the colonial style Old Siam Plaza and the new four-storey India Emporium.
