Phalaenopsis bastianii is a species in the orchid family ( Orchidaceae).
Description
Vegetative characteristics
Phalaenopsis bastianii is a growing monopodial orchid that grows mostly epiphytic. Often Kindel form on the plants. It has about 20 cm long and 6 cm wide, elliptic, yellow-green leaves.
Generative features
The upright inflorescences are about 20 cm long and branch out quite frequently.
The flower gives off no scent. The hermaphrodite, zygomorphic flowers are about 4 inches tall. The bloom have a green - yellow to light yellow color and are covered with dark red stripes. The flowers are colored purple in the middle, as well as that covered with some hairs lip. The column is in the area of Antherenkappe white. After pollination, the bloom form back and be green ( flowers metamorphosis ).
It develops a green, 6-7 cm long capsule fruit.
Occurrence
Copies of Phalaenopsis bastianii have been found at altitudes of up to 500 meters in the Philippines.
Systematics and botanical history
Plant specimens of this species were taken in 1980 in a batch to Europe, the first one held for Phalaenopsis mariae.
1991 Phalaenopsis bastianii by Olaf Gruss and Lutz Roellke was first described. The specific epithet bastianii honor the Son Bastian botanical co- author of this kind, Lutz Roellke.
Has been described as a form f flava bastianii Phalaenopsis orchids Atlas in 1991 by Olaf Gruss and Lutz Roellke. Of the botanists at the Royal Botanic Gardens ( Kew ), London, it is considered as a synonym of Phalaenopsis bastianii.
Similarity to other types
Can be confused bastianii Phalaenopsis due to large morphological similarity with mariae Phalaenopsis maculata and Phalaenopsis. In this case, differences Phalaenopsis mariae must be lashed much more difficult. Eric A. Christenson writes of three main distinguishing features:
- An upright inflorescence at bastianii Phalaenopsis, Phalaenopsis mariae in a depending
- Less trichomes on the middle lobe of the lip in Phalaenopsis bastianii
