Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana is a species in the orchid family ( Orchidaceae). Your name is the orchid lovers Lüddemann, a friend of Reichenbach dedicated. 1865 brought the first European Lüddemann a Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana in culture to blossom.

Features

Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana is a growing monopodial orchid that grows mostly epiphytic.

It has about 30 cm long and 9 cm wide, elliptic leaves that feel leathery. The inflorescences are about 40 cm long and branch out quite frequently. The waxy flowers have white to ocher -colored tepals that are covered with violet to magenta spots. After pollination, the petals form back and be green ( flowers metamorphosis ).

Often Kindel form on the plants.

Known forms and varieties

Been described as forms are f Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana ochracea and Phalaenopsis orchids lueddemanniana f delicata in the Atlas of Manfred Wolff and Olaf Gruss 2001. The same forms have been described in 1865 by Heinrich Gustav Reichenbach as varieties in the Gardener's Chronicle. Of the botanists at the Royal Botanic Gardens ( Kew ), London, they are regarded as synonyms of Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana.

Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana is endemic native to the Philippines.

History

The first plant of this species was brought from low to Europe. In the first copies it was thought that it constitutes Phalaenopsis equestris and threw them away. When they noticed the mistake, Reichenbach 1865, described in the Botanical newspaper this new Article

Furthermore Phalaenopsis were lueddemanniana var hieroglyphica to 1969, Phalaenopsis pulchra var lueddemanniana or Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana var purpurea to 1968 and in the meantime Phalaenopsis pallens lueddemanniana var described as varieties of lueddemanniana, now form the former varieties of the species Phalaenopsis hieroglyphica, Phalaenopsis pulchra and Phalaenopsis pallens.
