Phallichthys fairweatheri

Phallichthys is a genus of viviparous tooth carp ( Poeciliinae ). The fish are endemic to Cuba and the largest neighboring island Isla de la Juventud.

Features

Phallichthys species reach lengths between 2.5 cm and 5 cm (males), or between 4 cm and 9 cm (females ). They are small, inconspicuous fish from yellowish to brownish- oliver staining. Females are larger and are colored pale. The fins are transparent in most cases. Macroscopic features with which the genus can be diagnosed are not present.

Way of life

Phallichthys species live both in standing and in weedy calm flowing waters. They feed on invertebrates and vegetable-based foods
