Phanom District

Amphoe Phanom ( Thai: อำเภอ พนม ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the southwest of the province of Surat Thani. The Surat Thani Province is located in the southern region of Thailand.

Geography

The district is located in the Phuket mountain range, with about 60% of the area consist of mountain and forest areas. The north-west of the district is protected by the National Park Khao Sok, in the southwest is the National Park Khlong Phanom.

In Phanom the eastern end of the mountain pass, the Takua Pa to Surat Thani connects. The historic pass in the valley of the Sok River is now used by the Highway 401 (Highway 401), which connects the Phang Nga province about Surat Thani Nakhon Si Thammarat.

The neighboring Amphoe and territories are (from north clockwise): Amphoe Ban Ta Khun which, Khiri Council Nikhom, Khian Sa and Phrasaeng in the province of Surat Thani, Amphoe Plai Phraya Krabi Province and Amphoe Thap Put, Amphoe Mueang Phang Nga, Kapong, Takua Pa, Phangnga Khura Buri province.

History

The district was established in 1890 as Khlong Cha Un ( คลอง ชะ อุ่น ). The chairman of the management at that time was Khun Phanom Thana Rak In 1910 the district to a sub-district ( King Amphoe ) was scaled down and in Phak Phanom ( ปาก พนม ) renamed because a new administration building in Phak Phanom was built. Later the name was simplified to Phanom. He got on November 14, 1971 its full Amphoe status.

Management

Amphoe Phanom is divided into six subdistricts ( tambon), which in turn have together 56 municipalities ( Muban ).

The city has Phanom city status ( thesaban tambon), it is in Tambon Phang Kan and parts of the tambon Phanom.

In addition, there are six " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations).
