Phanom Sarakham District

Amphoe Phanom Sarakham ( Thai: อำเภอ พนมสารคาม ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the province of Chachoengsao. The Chachoengsao province is located in the eastern region of central Thailand.

Geography

Neighboring districts ( from east clockwise): Amphoe Sanam Chai Khet which, Plaeng Yao and Ratchasan the province of Chachoengsao, and Amphoe Si Maha Phot and Si Mahosot in the province of Prachinburi.

An important river of the district is the Khlong Tha Lat.

History

Phanom Sarakham Mueang ( เมือง พนมสารคาม ) was already a city in the Kingdom of Ayutthaya, as well as the neighboring Mueang Phanat Nikhom ( เมือง พนัสนิคม ) and Sanam Chai Khet Mueang ( เมือง สนาม ไช ย์ เขต ต์ ).

In 1894 it was raised to the district of Phanom Sarakham.

Management

The circle is divided into eight subdistricts (tambon ), which are further subdivided into 86 villages ( Muban ).

There are four other small towns ( Tambon thesaban ):

• Co Khanum ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เกาะ ขนุน ) consists of parts of the tambon Ko Khanum,
• Phanom Sarakham ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล พนมสารคาม ) consists of parts of the tambon Phanom Sarakham,
• Khao Hin Son ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เขา หิน ซ้อน ) consists of parts of the tambon Khao Hin Son,
• Ban Song ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บ้าน ซ่อง ) consists of the whole tambon Ban Song.

In addition, there are seven " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
