Phantom Planet is an American alternative rock band from Los Angeles. It was founded in 1994. The band's name is a nod to the sci-fi movie The Phantom Planet from the year 1961.

History

Late 1990, the band played a few gigs in Los Angeles Area, and made ​​himself as a name. In 1997, she received her first recording contract with Geffen. The following year they released their debut album, Phantom Planet Is Missing, the celebrated but only moderate success with the critics.

In early 2001 they went back into the studio to produce the successor. To support you won Tchad Blake ( Pearl Jam, Sheryl Crow ) and Mitchell Froom (Elvis Costello, Paul McCartney ). A year later, The Guest appeared on the label DreamWorks. In Germany, the album was mainly known for the title song California from the television series The OC.

In August 2003, Jason Schwartzman decided to leave the band. Nevertheless, you can still hear him on the third album, Phantom Planet, published in 2004.

November 2008 has given the band announced that they will no longer play live shows. On the MySpace page of the band was expressly declared that it comes to no resolution, but only a little "time out".

Reunification

4 November 2011 Phantom Planet informed via Twitter that the band would unite again in 2012. The first reunion show was scheduled for June 13, 2012 in Los Angeles.
