Bronze Wing Pigeon ( Phaps chalcoptera )

Bronze wing doves are a genus of pigeons birds. They are closely related to the Green wing doves as well as with the genus Henicophaps. It only be attributed to three species of this genus. They come exclusively in Australia.

Appearance

Bronze wing pigeons are pigeons with a compact to plump physique. The largest member of the genus is the bronze wing pigeon, which reaches a body length of 33-35 centimeters and weighs 300 grams. The Busch dove and the Harlequin pigeon are only 28 centimeters tall against it. Characteristic of the three types is an in relation to body size smaller head. All species have a black and white head markings.

Distribution and habitat

The bronze wing pigeon is represented in many parts of Australia and Tasmania. The other two species have small distribution areas. The bush pigeon lives next to the south-west Tasmania and southeast Australia. The Harlequin pigeon lives in Queensland, Australia, the northern Western Australia and in New South Wales. The other hand, you lack to Tasmania.

The bronze wing pigeon is the kind that is most strongly tied to the forest. But you also populated with trees and open only loosely lined regions. The Busch dove occurs in heath areas with bushes and low trees. However, they also colonized wetlands and coastal areas. The Harlequin pigeon, however, lives in semi-arid grasslands and semi-deserts.

Behavior

All three types hold off on almost exclusively on the ground. The diet consists of seeds, berries and small invertebrates. The Harlequin pigeon breeds exclusively on the ground, the bush dove hand, uses to invest their nests loosely assembled and shrubs. The bronze wing pigeon breeds relatively rare on the ground. It is one of the few species of pigeons which nest in rock crevices and tree hollows. However, in most cases, their nest is in crotches.
