Pharos Lighthouse (Fleetwood)

P4

The Pharos Lighthouse is a lighthouse in Fleetwood, Lancashire, England. The lighthouse, which is also known as Upper Light, signaled in conjunction with the Beach Lighthouse and the Wyre Light the entrance to the port of Fleetwood by the method characterized by sandbars estuary of the River Wyre. The lighthouse stands in the middle of a residential area in Pharos Street, which earned him his name in reference to the Pharos lighthouse in Alexandria.

The 29 m high lighthouse was designed in 1839 by Decimus Burton and Captain Henry Mangles Denham and built of sandstone. On 1 December 1840, the tower was put into operation.

The lighthouse sends a green light, which is 22 km visible and when it is located directly above the light of the Beach Lighthouse, indicating the Wyre Light, which in 3.7 km off the coast of the North Wharf Bank the driveway marks the navigation channel of the Wyre.

The lighthouse is a monument that is managed by English Heritage as a Grade II Monument.
