The Pheasant Island is one of two islands in the south of the Great Eutiner Lake (city Eutin in a circle East Holstein in Schleswig -Holstein). The island is about 150 x 200 meters and covers an area of approximately 2.1 hectares.

The Pheasant Island was the 9th century the site of a Wendish castle - and was the center of the district of the same name - which was given the name " Utin ". The castle was connected to the shore by a bridge.

The castle was destroyed by the Holsten in the conquest Wagriens 1138/39 - the subsequent settlement was established on the shore and evolved into the present-day city Eutin.

The Pheasant Island is one of the target points of the visual axes of the (former ) Baroque gardens of the castle Eutiner.

The name " Pheasant Island" is derived from a formerly existing there pheasant.

The island is privately owned and inhabited. You should be foreclosed in March 2013 relating to a proceeding before the district court Eutin.
