Phelps County (Nebraska)

Phelps County is a county located in the state of Nebraska in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Holdrege, which was named after the railway official George W. Holdrege.

Geography

The County is located in southern Nebraska, is about 40 km away from Kansas and has an area of 1400 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Kearney County, Harlan County, Furnas County, Gosper County, Dawson County and Buffalo County.

History

Phelps County was formed in 1873. It was named after William Phelps, an early settler in the area.
