Phenalkamine

As phenalkamines (phenol alkane amines) is referred to certain semi-synthetic hardeners for epoxy resins that cure rapidly even at low temperatures (below 5 ° C). They are not very sensitive to moisture during cure ( even under water) and offer good chemical resistance and elasticity. Therefore, they are particularly suitable for the production of marine and offshore coatings, solvent-free floor coatings for industrial, coatings for agricultural equipment and for tank and pipe linings.

Phenalkamines be made from the present in cashew shell oil cardanoles. In this case (especially formaldehyde) and polyamines aminoalkyl groups are introduced on the ring via a Mannich reaction with aldehydes.
