Phenolic acid

Phenolic acids ( phenolic carboxylic acids), aromatic chemical compounds belonging to the group of hydroxybenzoic acids or hydroxycinnamic acids. Thus, they are phenols and due to its carboxy, carboxylic acids.

Examples

The group of hydroxybenzoic acids include, for example, the gallic acid (R1 = OH, R2 = OH) and vanillic acid (R1 = OCH3, R2 = H).

The group of hydroxycinnamic acids include, for example ferulic acid (R1 = H, R2 = OCH3) and caffeic acid (R1 = H, R2 = OH).
